Diabetes: The Real Causes – Part II
Following on our discussions in The Diabetes Bonanza – Part I:
Diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is a condition in which the body becomes unable to properly convert the food, especially glucose, into the energy needed for the daily activities. It happens because of disruption in the glucose metabolism process in the body. The substance responsible for the glucose metabolism in the body is Insulin. At the onset of diabetes, the body is either not able to produce the insulin due to a failure of the pancreas (type-1), or is not able to utilize the generated insulin due to body’s resistance to insulin (type-2). The resulting elevated sugar level in the blood leads to a variety of serious complications and diseases.
Here, we are going to focus on understanding the mechanism and the causes of this dreaded disease.
Glucose – The Source of Cellular Energy
Our body is composed of living cells that need constant supply of energy to regenerate and perform their designated functions. The primary energy source for our cells is glucose – a simple sugar resulting from the digestion of foods containing carbohydrates (sugars and starches). Glucose from the digested food circulates in the blood as a ready energy source for any cells that need it.
Insulin – Glucose Metabolism
The substance responsible for glucose metabolism in the body is Insulin. It is produced by the Beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans in Pancreas. Insulin bonds to a receptor site on the outside of cell and acts like a key to open a doorway into the cell through which glucose can enter. When either the Pancreas becomes unable to produce enough insulin or the insulin key is not recognized by the cell receptors, glucose cannot enter the cells. In this condition, while the cells starve, glucose builds up in the blood giving an abnormal rise to the glucose levels in the blood. This buildup of glucose in blood is known as Diabetes – It is a very dangerous condition for human body.
The Real Causes of Diabetes
While the diabetes wrecks havoc on our health, it brings billions of dollars for the Healthcare Industry. Since the Healthcare Industry has vested interest in the disease – and both the media and the regulating agency are in its pockets, it is prudent to investigate the causes of this disease rather deeply and independently.
The Prime Culprit – HealthCare Industry:
With the perspective of the Healthcare Industry, diabetes is not just a $200 billion component of profit, it is also the door opener to other major revenue generating diseases. Diabetes leads to High Blood Pressure, Heart Diseases, Cancer,Renal Diseases, and a plethora of other complications – all instrumental in siphoning out hundreds of billions of dollars from the public into the deep pockets of the Healthcare Industry’s.
The use of prescription drugs is one of the major causes of diabetes. The HeathCare Industry doesn’t even hide it – many of its drugs list the diabetes as the side effect of the drug. One such example is the widespread practice of prescribing synthetic insulin to ‘treat’ pre-diabetics which is known to be a poison the pancreas – under the assault of this poison, pancreas eventually stops producing its own insulin – Resulting in full blown Type-I diabetes.
There are numerous classes of drugs that have been recognized to induce diabetes – such as Thiazides, Beta-blockers, Corticosteroids, Statins, Steroids, and Protease Inhibitors like, Ritonavir and Pentamidine.
The Atypical Antipsychotics (AAP) (also known as second generation antipsychotics (SGAs) such as Olanzapine (Zyprexa), Clozapine (Clozaril), Risperidone, Ziprasidone (Geodon), and Aipiprazole (Abilify) are also known to increase the risk of developing diabetes. People on these drugs, according to the drug industry’s own statistics, are ~ 50% more likely to result in diabetes.
The Fat & Sugar Factor:
HealthCare Industry is not alone in the crusade against your health, it has the support of all of its cahoots – and they all work in concert with each other. By vilifying the good fats, they succeeded in sabotaging our immune system – Reduced intake of good fats over time depleted the cholesterol in our body, leaving it defenseless against all sort of diseases and infections.
Elimination of health promoting natural fats and oils – naturally rich in cholesterol, from our diet has been a major contributing factor in the development of diabetes. Thoughtless adoption of bad fats – promoted by the HealthCare Industry as the ‘GOOD FATS’, has been further helping the Industry.
Rather than a failure to metabolize carbohydrates, a traditional classification that originated in the early 19th century when little was known about the metabolic diseases or about metabolic processes, diabetes is more fundamentally a failure of the body to properly metabolize fats and oils – failure that resulted from consuming the wrong fats and oils that are, in fact, hazardous to the body.
This failure of body to metabolize these wrong fats results in the effectiveness of insulin in metabolizing carbohydrates – which, in turn, impedes the metabolism of Glucose.
Chemically refined (white) sugar is a poisonous substance. Over indulgence in sugar, especially the refined sugar and the sugar substitutes, is causing a havoc on health of our body’s metabolic system. When the pancreas becomes exhausted by the constant demand of producing insulin needed to convert all that sugar into heat and energy, it finally malfunctions. The excess sugar then builds up in the bloodstream. Without the sufficient insulin to process the glucose, the body – at the cellular level, is deprived of its essential source of energy. As a result, you feel hungry no matter how much food you consume.
Sugar accumulates in the bloodstream faster than the body can excrete it through urine, and the body becomes literally poisoned. This condition makes you feel tired, weak, nauseated, and depressed – vulnerable to other disastrous diseases.
Sugar substitutes like Aspartame (NutraSweet) – so loudly promoted by the Healthcare Industry, are even more dangerous and poisonous to our bodies than sugar. These substitutes cause slow, silent damage and devastation in those unfortunate ones who don’t have an immediate adverse reactions to these poisons, thus having a reason to avoid it.
Soft drink industry is another major contributor in the growth of diabetes epidemic – there seems to be an interesting alliance between the Healthcare Industry and the Soft drink paddlers. The American Diabetes Association (ADA), just a few years ago, had announce a multi-million dollar alliance with the Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (CSAB) to help “combat obesity and diabetes” in America by stressing the importance of making “smart nutritional choices” !!!
According to an ADA press release sent to national media outlets, CSAB will support local and national ADA programs, such as “America’s Walk for Diabetes” and “ Weight Loss Matters “. The release does not state, however, that the CSAB will be permitted to use The ADA logo on its diet soft drink products in exchange for its multi-million dollar contribution.
The Hazardous Metals & Chemicals Factor:
The HealthCare Industry knows how sensitive the insulin receptor sites are to the chemical poisoning. It has taken all the necessary measure to ensure that we keep on getting a minimum dosage of these poisonous chemicals and metals as part of our diet. Metals such as cadmium, mercury, arsenic, lead, fluoride and aluminum play a role in the destruction of the beta cells by stimulating an auto-immune reaction to them after they have bonded to these cells in the pancreas – It is because these metals attach themselves at such junctions of proteins of the beta cells that it causes morphological changes in the cells, making them a target of the body’s auto-immune system.
Cadmium is a widespread environmental pollutant that accumulates in the pancreas and exerts diabetogenic effects on our body – It inhibits insulin release and damages insulin receptors. This heavy metal also damages the key pathways through which the body regulates glucose metabolism.
Arsenic is a highly toxic metalloid. It is widely used as a growth stimulant in chickens – it helps to develop the meat faster. The poultry industry has gone wild using this ingredient. Consumption of chicken raised on arsenic laden feed may contribute significant amounts of arsenic to the total arsenic exposure of the U.S. population.
Besides causing nervous system disorders, peripheral vascular disease, endocrine disruption and cancer, arsenic has also alters certain biological processes that regulate insulin resistance. Arsenic exposure is also considered one of the prominent environmental causes of cancer.
For over 50 years, the government and media have touted fluoride as a safe and effective means of reducing dental cavities, especially in children. But fluoride is not the benevolent and innocuous substance the public has been led to believe. Cancer, diabetes, thyroid, neurological disorders, hormonal imbalances, heart disease, arthritis, and osteoporosis have all been linked to chronic fluoride ingestion.
Our bodies are constantly being exposed to these poisonous metals through the food we consume and water we drink.
The Hazardous Foods Factor:
There is a common underlying cause for both the heart diseases and diabetes – It is poor nutrition. More specifically, the consumption of foods and beverages that actually deplete the body of its essential nutrients, and, on the other side, the lack of naturally healthy foods and beverages that could provide good nutrition to body — the vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, amino acids, fiber, and all the other elements that the human body needs in order to be healthy and free of chronic disease.
The human body is not designed to handle the amount of refined sugar, salt, saturated fats, and other harmful – and outright poisonous, foods that most people have got accustomed to consume. Beside that, most of us are unknowingly consuming foods laden with dangerous chemicals and poisonous additives and preservatives. Intake of such substances, in place of healthy and natural foods, results in metabolic disorders that cause, beside other ailments, elevated blood insulin levels – leading to the onset of diabetes. Consumption of these hazardous foods also results in obesity, elevated blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases and cancerous growths.
Many of us are unaware that even the staple of our diet, Bread and Four, is also contributing in the growth of diabetes. The contributing agent here is Alloxan – It is a toxic glucose analogue, which selectively destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Flour, especially the white flour, is mixed with Alloxan to make the white flour look fresh and clean.
Alloxan initiates free radical damage to DNA in the beta cells of the pancreas, causing the cells to mutate and die. When these beta cells fail to operate normally, they can no longer produce enough insulin, initiating the adult-onset of type 2 diabetes.
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) causes a very sever insulin response after it is ingested since there are glutamate receptors in the pancreas. MSG opens calcium channels, thus constricting blood vessels. It also causes hypothalamic lesions which, in turn, can cause gross obesity. MSG is liberally used in most commercially prepared and sold foods under a variety of names.
Outright poisonous substances like Potassium benzoate and sodium benzoate are commonly used by the Food Industry to give that fresh taste to soft drinks. Drinking these soft drinks – whether it’s regular or diet – contributes to increase in the risk factors for both the heart disease and diabetes.
FDA, of course, stands silent and allows these poisonous substances to be used in drugs and food.
Other Factors Contributing the Onset of Diabetes:
- A sedentary lifestyle, combined with a diet high in refined carbohydrates and sugary foods is largely to blame for the rapid increase in Type 2 diabetes.
- Poor diet leading to nutritional deficiency.
- Consumption of diet rich in carbohydrates.
- Stress and mental trauma.
- Infections with specific bacteria or viruses leading to certain disease of pancreas.
- Parasitic infections is also considered a possible factor in the spread of diabetes.
Complications and Precautions
The diabetes in itself is not a life threatening disease, but it can lead to other more serious diseases and illnesses. People with diabetes are at a higher risk of some serious diseases and illnesses such as heart diseases, stroke, kidney failure, neuropathy and nerve damage, foot ulcers, and blindness. It is extremely important to control diabetes in order to avoid the onset of these more serious and sometimes life-threatening illnesses.
The best approach, of course, is to avoid falling victim to this disease – A natural, wholesome and nourishing diet, and regular physical workout regimen is all you need to remain diabetes free. But, if you have already been infected with the diabetes, there are some natural remedies to help you return to a healthy life again. You can avoid the devastating side-effects of dangerous drugs pushed by the Healthcare Industry. Don’t fall prey to a greedy and vicious Industry – Heal yourself naturally.
∘ In Part-III, we are going to discuss the natural and herbal remedies to control and manage diabetes.
